Wineries for sale in Tenerife: volcanic soils with unique grape varieties

Tenerife is an island in the Atlantic Ocean, the largest archipelago of the Canary Islands and the most populated in Spain. HISTORY OF WINE

It is said that the first vines in Tenerife were planted by the Portuguese Fernando de Castro in 1497. The French had colonized the western islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura), while the English were in El Hierro. This cultural confluence led to the arrival of vines of good quality from all over the world. Today, the Canary Islands have unique grape varieties.

Already in the sixteenth century Tenerife wines were exported to all over Europe under the brand name "Canary". Apparently, they were appreciated by kings such as Alexander I, Tsar of Russia; Francis I of France and even the Spaniard Charles III. Trade with the Indies gained strength at the beginning of the 16th century, although exportation was held back between the 17th and 18th centuries by strong competition from Portuguese wines. It is already in the twentieth century when designations of origin began to be created in all the islands of the archipelago.

Tenerife has a large number of Designations of Origin, including the DOTacoronte Acentejo, DOYcoden Daute Isora, DOValle de la Orotava, DOValle de Güimar and DOAbona. The most outstanding wineries in Tenerife are Bodegas Monje, Bodegas Insulares, Bodegas Suerte del Marqués, Bodegas Viña Zanata, Bodegas Altos de Trevejos, Bodega Ferrera, Bodegas Frontos, Bodegas El Lomo, Bodegas Viñátigo, Bodega Contiempo, Bodegas Insercasa or Bodegas La Palmera.

The wineries of Tenerife are located, largely, on beautiful volcanic landscapes and close to beautiful insular beaches. In fact, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the Spanish province with the most natural parks: Teide National Park, La Caldera de Taburiente National Park and Garajonay National Park.
