Infographic of the Region
In recent years there has been an increase in the sale of wineries in Catalonia, one of the best known regions of Spain, whose capital (Barcelona) is the second largest city in the country. It is located in the Northeast of the Peninsula, south of the border with France, and on the Mediterranean coast. The vineyards for sale in Catalonia can be coastal, as in Alella, or settle on mountainous areas, as in Priorat. The latter area is home to 90% of the country's total cava wine production, a milestone among the world's sparkling wines. In the district of Empordà (Girona), excellent olive oil is also produced.
The list of wineries in Catalonia include one of the only two Qualified Designations of Origin in Spain, the Priorat DOQ. There are two other popular territories such as the DO Montsant, DO Penedès, DO Terra Alta, DO Alella, DO Tarragona, DO Costers del Segre, DO Catalunya, DO Plà de Bagés, DO Conca de Barberà and DO Empordà. Among the main white grapes used by the Catalonia wineries, Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo, Pedro Ximénez, Chenin Blanc or Moscatel de Alejandría; among the reds, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo, Garnacha Peluda, Tempranillo, Picapoll Negre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
