Wine Decalogue, Part 2

If you want to know about wine this is your decalogue: Part 2

Let’s go with the other five rules of the catalog.

6º) Study and read: True knowledge of a subject is acquired through theoretical and practical study. Wine is no exception. It is not enough to open and open bottles, it is also necessary to study areas, wines, producers; read magazines, blogs; and, of course, follow people who share our passion on social networks. There are reference books that are true bibles and that should be kept on hand. Constant contact with the subject is what really makes us learn, evolve and stay up to date.

7º) Travel to wine-growing areas: When you visit an area you truly become aware of the place, its people, its gastronomy, its idiosyncrasy and its soul. For these reasons, it is essential to know in depth the different wine-growing areas of the world, as it is the best way to understand the contents of a bottle. In addition, it is a way to increase the pleasure that a wine offers, because traveling, for most people, is another form of distraction.

8º) Spending (investing) money: It may seem silly, but spending money buying wine is not. Perhaps the right word is not spend, since knowledge is always an investment. The wine lover, if he wants to learn, has to be willing to allocate a part of his budget to it. It may seem disproportionate at first, but this is an essential rule if we want to learn. In turn, it will lead us to understand why some areas and wines are recognized and others not so much.

9º) Share: The opinions of friends or tasting companions favor learning, in addition to the fact that we will all agree if I say that shared wine tastes much better. A point of view different from ours always opens our eyes and allows us to see what is in front of us from another perspective. In addition, shared bottles allow us to discover other wines that we may not have known if it hadn’t been for someone deciding to bring them to an event.

10º) Enjoy: Everything is easier to learn if we enjoy what we are doing. Wine has many connotations, but it is irrefutable that around a glass of wine things are seen in a positive perspective. Furthermore, wine is always a reason for happiness and, simply for this reason, it is worth opening a bottle.
