“Dear Three Wise Men, this year I have been very good…” That’s how our letters to the Three Wise Men from the East began when we were children. Today we are no longer children, although we all retain a little bit of that essence, so we can continue dreaming as we did then. If I had to write a letter to the Three Wise Men, I have no doubt what I would ask for. I’m going to try, to see if I’m lucky and my wishes come true.
Dear Three Wise Men, for this New Year that is about to begin, I only wish for Health and Peace. Health to be able to enjoy family and friends. Peace for a tense society that is in dire need of a good dose of unity. I know I am asking for a lot, but it is very little considering the happiness it will bring to so many people.
If you have any magic left over, although I know I’ve used up a lot with my previous requests, I’d like to take this opportunity to ask for a few small gifts that would make me very happy:
1) Direct entry into the Vila Viniteca Blind Tasting competition. It may seem silly, but we’ve been entering at the last second for several years now, and it’s too stressful to be able to perform at our best.
2) Assuming that the previous wish comes true, we could use a little intuition when it comes to heads or tails. I know that knowledge is the key, but a little bit of luck always helps.
3) For several years now, I’ve been planning a trip to Tuscany, so I’d love to get lost again on the winding roads surrounded by vineyards and visit its charming villages. Chianti, Montalcino, Siena… Sangiovese and Trebbiano. Mmm!
4) In May, the Spanish Blind Tasting Championship will take place. This time it will be held in La Rioja. Last year didn’t go very well for us, so if we could regain our balance, I think we could win the Spanish Championship for the third time. Hopefully!
5) Once again, allow me to take the previous wish for granted, and as the third time’s the charm, I think it’s time to win the World Blind Tasting Championship organized by the Revue du Vin, this year in Avignon, a place of fond memories. It would be incredible!
I won’t go on any longer. Remember that with health and peace I will be more than satisfied, but if you add a little extra of your magic, it would be wonderful.
Your letter feels like the perfect blend of hope and humor. Health and peace truly are the greatest gifts, especially in today’s world. And I can totally relate to the struggle of securing spots in popular wine competitions! I hope the Wise Men grant you that entry and a bit of luck with the flip of a coin!
