Organic-producing wineries for sale

Wine goes green

More and more international wineries opt for organic wine, which benefits not only the environment, but the taste too.

Unsurprisingly, the ecological frenzy has reached the world of wine.  More and more wine producers turn to the certification to demonstrate that their drink is free from chemicals.  The result is a pure taste which is in line with its birth land, as well as being environmentally friendly.  However, obtaining the official qualification is not a simple task, given that in addition to the tedious administrative process, there is a change in routine in the whole chain.  The immediate effort comes with a long-term profit, since the international market requests the presence of the hallmark? with more and more insistency.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there is a total of 669 wineries that produce organic wine now in Spain, with Andalucía being the autonomy that consolidates 50% of the hectares of production in all the country. There are more and more wine sectors that are adopting this method, even creating specific prizes.  The European Union is the main body responsible for certifying that a wine produced within its territory is effectively of ecological nature.  Although some of them are manufactured under environmentally-friendly conditions, there exists a series of criteria that must be controlled, from the cultivation to the labelling (fertilizers, machinery, corks etc.).  Another example is how the partial dealcoholisation is prohibited.

Once all the parametres have been fulfilled, the wineries must wait up to three years before commercialising their organic wine as eco-friendly and obeying to a yearly inspection. There are also some fees – between 100 and 150 euros per hectare. With all of this in mind, it suggests that not all producers can pursue this path from the beginning, but there is another option. More and more wineries that are for sale are claiming to have obtained the eco-friendly certificate in order to attract buyers.  Below are some examples.
