10 Red wines for this summer

10 Red wines for this summer

Although it may seem that red wines are not the most suitable to face the summer heat, I assure you that there are plenty of good options. Here are ten:

1º) MIÑATO DE RAÑA, BY NANCLARES&PRIETO.

By now, you already know that Galician wines are ideal for summer. Acidity, freshness, atlanticism, tension and a lot of quality. This coupage of Galician varieties from Rías Baixas is one of the best reds we can enjoy.

2º) A TORNA DOS PASAS, BY LUIS ANXO RODRÍGUEZ.

We continue in Galicia, now in Ribeiro. Caiño, ferrol and brancellao, grapes with a lot of freshness and acidity.

3º) ULTREIA SAINT JACQUES, BY RAÚL PÉREZ.

Let’s go to Bierzo with the great Raúl Pérez. Mencia always transmits flowers, pleasure and freshness.

4º) LA BRUJA, BY COMANDO G.

In the Sierra de Gredos, Garnacha reigns supreme with its red fruit and minerality. Moreover, Comando G is an excellent winery that produces top wines.

5º) 4 KILOS, BY BODEGAS 4 KILOS

Talking about summer, we could not miss a Mallorcan wine. This callet will take you to heaven. Ideal for pairing with local food.

6º) LAGAR DE BAIXO, FROM NIERPORT

A great wine from Bairrada, Portugal. Baga is one of those little known varieties, but with great acidity and tannicity. A perfect choice for the heat.

7º) TERRES ROUGES, FROM ARNAUD LAMBERT.

The lack of structure of cabernet franc, together with its good acidity, allows us to enjoy the red wines of the Loire, often in the shadow of the excellent chenin blanc.

8º) MONTERAPONI CHIANTI CLASSICO, FROM MONTERAPONI.

Tuscany is always an excellent place to enjoy the summer, but if we cannot travel there, we can open a Monteraponi sangiovese at home. It won’t be like travelling to Tuscany, but you’ll like it.

9º) LANGHE NEBBIOLO, BY PAOLO SCAVINO.

Nebbiolo is always another great option. Despite its high tannicity, its acidity and freshness invite us to drink it. Of course, in Piedmont it would be even better, because it is undoubtedly one of the best wine destinations.

10º) WEILER, FROM WEINGUT AM SCHLIPF SCHENEIDER

Finally, a German winery that I love. All their pinot noirs that I have tasted are excellent. Fresh, aromatic, tasty…, ideal to combat the heat.

Like the previous ones, this selection ranges from 12 € to 50 €, so there is no excuse. Some of these wines can be found in bars, restaurants and shops, although not always. The safe bet is to buy them in specialised shops and enjoy them at home, preferably on a terrace or by the pool. In any case, all of them are easy to buy online.
